  1. Engine/Transmission/Steer Annoying Noise Attempts were to fix the transmission fluid leak, power steering fluid leak, stabilizer, power steering tank, steering rack in power steering gear box and power steering fluid pump. The dealer has made four attempts so far. The last attempt was made in ten days ago. Since the last attempt, I have heard similar noise twice, but it is weaker. I am sure it will get louder and louder as it did after the first three attempts. I have no confidence that the dealer has really fixed the problem or even known the causes of the problems.
  2. Corrosion After a year, rusty spots exhibit. The dealer has to have a body shop to repaint the rusty spots and replace the corroded horn.
  3. Fluid Leaks You name them, almost all the possible leaks occurred, such transmission fluid leak, engine old leak, power steering fluid leak and coolant leak.
  4. Latch/Lock Problems Rear right passenger door opened itself when I drove it. Fortunately, no one was seating there. The same door could not get closed twice because the latch stuck. The door rubber pieces fell out numerous times. The dealer has made several attempts to fix it.
  5. Check Engine Light On The first attempt of the dealer was to adjust the engine and replace purge valve. When it re-occurred, then another attempt is to reset the system. When it re-occurred again, the sending unit failure was found and replaced them.
  6. Fuel Light Flashing Even when there was more than half tank of fuel, the fuel light flashed intermittently. The dealer was unable to find the problem. So they just reset the compute. When it re-occurred, the attempt was to reset the computer again.
  7. Rear Right Wheel Clunking Noise The dealer was unable to find the problem. Now the noise still comes and goes.
  8. Sunroof I could only open it for about one inch. The dealer fixed it but sometimes I can hear some kind of metallic noise when opening and closing it.
  9. Power Window Problem One day when I was driving on undivided high way and a truck was passing by the vehicle, rear passenger window behind driver seat just rolled down by itself. I told the dealer and was asked to have to drive back to the dealer for a check if it happens again. The driver window did not go up. The dealer found the switch failure and fixed it.
  10. Power Door Lock Problem The power door lock just triggered itself several times when I stayed outside the vehicle and the key was inside the vehicle. I had to go home to get another key.
  11. Alarm Problem It triggered by itself several times. It occurred in the mid-night. I had to run into my garage to unlock it in order to let it shut down. Now I just do not lock it when I park the vehicle inside my garage.
  12. Door Doors were not aligned well. Striking noise sometimes exhibits from/near front passenger door area when making sharp turn.
  13. Cargo Area Noise The plastic boards covering the gap between rear passenger seats and cargo area sometimes make bouncing noise when driving on relatively clean roads.
  14. Rattles and Creaking noises in Rear Passenger Compartment There exist rear passenger compartment rattles and creaking noises from seats, top and somewhere underneath the seats.
  15. Windshield Wiper Noise When it rains and my friends sit inside the vehicle, it is really embarrassing. When my family sits inside the vehicle, it’s disgusted.
  16. Air Conditioner Problem. I bought it in the winter and had no chance to try the air conditioner when I received it. Eventually, the summer came and it was time to enjoy it. Guess what? My wife and son asked me to turn it off because it smelled so badly. After having tried for a period of time and hoped the bad smell would go away, it was not getting better. I had nothing to say but did not turn it on until got the dealer to fix it.
  17. Seatbelt Problem Within only one month, the vehicle was recalled to inspect and fix the seatbelt problem.
  18. Hard to operate the rear passenger seats. It is really hard to operate the rear passenger seats. On one early winter morning, my son and I went to ski and I wanted to put in the skis. I tried more than 10 minutes to fold down the rear passenger seats but they are stuck. Eventually, I could only fold them down a half way and managed the put in the skis. Now whenever I want to fold down the rear seats, I have to give me 10 to 15 minutes extra time to prepare.
  19. Front Dashboard Vibration Noise A front dashboard vibration noise comes and goes.
  20. Squeaking brakes A few weeks after I bought it, squeaking brake noise exhibited. I phoned the dealer and was told that after some time it would go away. Is that what a brand new Mercedes-Benz should be? It was embarrassing while I was stopping in front of intersections, other drivers noticed the noise and looked at the vehicle and me.
  21. Brake Problem When I drive it at modest speed and press brake pedal to slow down for making turn, sometimes the vehicle does not slow down but speeds up for about half second instead, and then it slows down. The dealer can not identify the problem.

The dealer, Hyatt Auto Gallery of Mercedes-Benz, is incapable of fixing some of the problems. I have no confidence that the dealer can actually fix them because some of them have re-occurred several times. The customer relations people (Mrs. Ann Bell, Mrs. France Barrette, etc.) of Mercedes-Benz Canada can not really help. The area manager (Mr. Hans Zechner) of Mercedes-Benz can do little. The regional manager (Mr. Ian Howis) of Mercedes-Benz does not really want to completely resolve the problems. Having numerous attempts to fix the problems, Mr. Ian Howis and the sales manager (Mr. Mike Edgar) worked out a deal and presented me an “offer”, which is for me to pay another $14,000 plus tax to replace my current vehicle with a new one or to pay another $10,000 plus tax to replace my current vehicle with a used one. What a dirty deal they are making. Mr. Ian Howis also told me that if I do not accept the offer, he will let the dealer keep making attempts to fix the problems until the warranty expires. It means after the warranty, I have pay out of my pocket for fixing the re-occurred problems, which had not been fixed before the warranty expired. I bought this brand new ML 320 at the end of December of 1999. Now.the amnount of money the dealer and Mercedes-Benz asked to replace it is ridiculous high. It is even higher than leasing the vehilce. It is the biggest mistake I have even make to buy this Mercedes-Benz.
